With so much to see and do in Exeter, why not extend your stay to discover why everyone is talking about our fascinating city. Here are some suggestions for a two day itinerary to get the most out of your visit to Exeter.
Morning
A morning visit and tour of Exeter’s historic Cathedral, then enjoy a coffee in the fantastic Cathedral café or in one of the many cafés or restaurants surrounding Cathedral Green.
Lunch
What do you fancy? Choose from cuisines from around the world at Queen St Dining or Princesshay, with Caribbean, Italian, Vietnamese, French, Japanese and, of course, British options! If the wather is good, grab a picnic lunch from one of the city’s delis such as Chandos, and find a peaceful spot in one of Exeter’s parks and gardens.
Afternoon
You’ll need a full afternoon to take in the delights of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) including a tour and some time to shop and enjoy a cup of tea in the café.
Evening
Have an early evening drink in one of the city’s numerous picturesque locations – choose from the panoramic views of Catherine’s Almshouse at Lloyds Lounge, or one of the rooftop bars in Queen St Dining. Then onto dinner, and Exeter has many award winning restaurants to choose from. After dinner, catch a show at one of the city's theatres, or watch a live band in one of Exeter's pubs or live music venues.
Morning
Start the day off with some invigorating activity, such as a paddle-board on Exeter Canal with Haven Banks, or a climbing session at the Quay Climbing Centre, home to the south west's largest indoor climbing wall.
Lunch
There are plenty of lunch options on Exeter Quayside, from waterside cafes housed in historic bonded warehouses, to pub grub or dustbin-lid sized pizzas at On the Waterfront.
Afternoon
Enjoy an eye-opening Red Coat Guided Tour of Exeter, a fascinating insight into the city’s rich history, and completely free of charge - there is no need to book, just turn up!
Then go subterranean at Exeter's Underground Passages, a unique ancient monument taking you on a guided tour through dark, narrow passages to see how the city got its fresh drinking water in medieval times.
Go shopping in Princesshay or head to Gandy Street or Fore Street to enjoy some speciality shopping in the city’s thriving independents.
Time for a well-deserved drink – or perhaps enjoy a traditional cream tea, while in Devon!
