February half-term (15th to 23rd February) in Exeter brings an array of family-friendly events, activities and attractions, in and around the city, to keep children of all ages entertained.
From popular attractions such as the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM), Exeter Cathedral and Crealy Adventure Park to theatre events and adrenalin fueled indoor activities on Exeter Quayside, there's non-stop fun to be found. If you're worried about the weather then we've put together a handy blog with some great wet weather options and also written a piece on money saving half-term ideas that are small on cost (some are even free) but still big on fun, fun, fun!
The RAMM has a jam-packed activity guide throughout the week to keep the kids busy, including Mask Making (18th), Pitter-Patter Make a Rain Stick (19th) and Dartmoor Puppets Prehistoric Adventure (20th).
For family theatre events, take a look at the programmes for Exeter Northcott Theatre and Exeter Phoenix for shows that will entertain the whole family! Pop on down to the Phoenix to enjoy The Enchanted Cinema and Your Face My Face All Ages (18th), and Sketch a Skeleton on Holiday (20th)
Stop by St Nicholas Priory, Exeter's oldest building, for a drop-in craft session on 17th February, where you can get involved with free stained-glass and biscuit decorating.
With over 60 rides and attractions, Crealy Theme Park is the South West's number one family day out. Offering a wide selection of outdoor rides and attractions, plus huge indoor soft and adventure play areas, there is something to do for the whole family, whatever the weather. Don't miss the return of 'Pop in the Park' for a sing-along to pop-tacular live tribute performances, including Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Ariana Granda.
If you've got a head for heights then you'll love climbing with your family and friends at the South West’s largest indoor climbing wall, The Quay Climbing Centre on Exeter's beautiful Quayside. If that's not enough of an adrenalin rush then you could also fly through the treetops on a Go Ape adventure at Haldon Forest Park, which itself is a fantastic place for mountain biking and adventure.
Bringing you back down to earth and for something more relaxing then how about a boat trip along the peaceful waters of the River Exe with Stuart Line Cruises, where young ones can enjoy some wildlife spotting. Who doesn't love a train ride and you can take a family trip on board the South Devon Railway which runs along the stunning valley of the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes.
For fans of train journeys then you can't miss one of the UK' most scenic routes along the coast to the beach towns of Dawlish and Teignmouth. Just a short ride on Great Western Railway and you'll be feeling the sand between your toes and maybe order an ice cream. You're on holiday after all! Further down the line and there's Paignton Zoo, home to over 2,000 animals and will you dare to enter their Croc Swamp attraction which has just re-opened.
If it's the great outdoors you enjoy then a visit to the National Trust's Killerton is always popular. The historic parkland with extensive woodland makes for a great day out and also perfect for your four legged friend. Nestled in a Devon valley, there's lots of half-term fun to be found at at RHS Garden Rosemoor, with activities including family planting workshops, a garden trail and even some magic.
A trip to Haldon Forest Park is always a wonderful experience and another great reason to visit is the free Earth Photo exhibition. It's on show until 19th March and amongst the forest you'll discover beautiful photographs from around the world, reflecting on issues affecting the climate and life on our planet.
