Exeter in 24 Hours

Exeter's compact size makes it easy to explore, and a great choice of accommodation and things to do make it the perfect destination for a weekend break.

9am Start at Exeter Cathedral in the centre of the city. If you have time, book onto a guided tour to find out more about the Cathedral's history from the experts. Don't miss the minstrels' gallery, the organ and the astronomical clock, and be sure to look up to see the beautiful stained glass windows and the longest stretch of unbroken Gothic vaulting in the world.

10am Indulge in a spot of shopping at some of the big names in Princesshay and the High Street, or head to Gandy Street and the West Quarter to find independent boutiques and vintage items.

11am Join a free walking tour with the Red Coat Guided Tours, a great introduction to one of England’s oldest cities!

12.30pm Time for a break...  whether you want a traditional pub lunch, modern cusine, afternoon tea or cream tea, there’s plenty of cafes and restaurants to satisfy those taste buds.

1.30pm A must-see attraction for Exeter is the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM), full of great exhibitions and completely free!

4pm Before dinner take a stroll down to Exeter’s historic quayside, only a 10 minute walk from the city centre. It is a great place to explore, eat, shop and enjoy the tranquillity of the river. 

7pm No matter what you fancy for dinner, Exeter will have it. Vegetarian, Thai, Moroccan, Indian, Japanese or English; there’s loads of restaurants all serving excellent food, with great atmosphere and service. Check out the Exeter Food & Drink Trail for eateries making the most of the fantasic local produce on offer here.

9pm  After dinner, catch a show at one of Exeter's eclectic choice of theatres, or head to one of the city's great pubs, nightclubs or entertainment venues to end your day in Exeter.

Midnight By now you’ll know doubt be ready for bed after such an action packed day! Luckily there’s loads fantastic accommodation on offer whether you’re after a hotel, B&B or self-catering.

8am Take one last walk through the city and enjoy breakfast at one of Exeter’s friendly cafes, such as Eat on the Green in Cathedral Close.
