Here's our top five reasons for visiting Canonteign Falls this summer.

The south-west's highest waterfall

It might be a bit of a trek to the top but as one of England's highest single-drop waterfalls, you'll be rewarded with magnificent panoramic views from Lady Exmouth Falls.

The climb to the falls takes you on a journey through Canonteign’s past. From the site of the old sawmill you pass Clampitt Falls, named after the brothers who built the original leat diverting water to the millwheel, through the woods to where you’ll emerge to your first sight of the 70 metre waterfall before continuing your climb up through the Secret Garden.

The descent takes you on an alternative, and equally as beautiful route, passing through ancient woodland to the Lily Lake, old Orchard and Bee Garden. Don't forget to bring some sturdy footwear as the terrain is rather uneven and can be slippery in places.

Victorian Fern Garden

A magnificent example of the Victorian obsession with ferneries, this mysterious and atmospheric garden appears almost lost in time. Tucked away in a hanging valley, high above the Estate, the full extent of the garden itself wasn’t even discovered until 2009 – and then only by chance. Now granted prestigious Plant Heritage National Collection status, this mystical world also provides plenty of cooling shelter on hot summer days. As you wander among the ferns, look out for hidden fairies and willow dinosaurs emerging from the lush greenery.

Alpaca experiences

With a beautiful backdrop of waterfalls and lakes, on 30th July and 15th August you can enjoy a unique alpaca experience at Canonteign Falls. Create lasting memories as you hand feed and walk with these beautiful animals, along with plenty of photo opportunities against the stunning backdrop of lakes and waterfalls. Each experience lasts for 45 minutes and also gives you 20% off day admission to Canonteign Falls, making for a fantastic day out for everyone.

Summer Children’s Activity Trail

With 90 acres to go wild in, there's lots of fun adventures for young explorers at Canonteign Falls this summer. There's a new children's summer trail for young visitors to enjoy and for under fours it's also free entry to the attraction. Youngsters can even sail away on a miniature adventure as Lily Lake is home to a charming model boat harbour.

Canonteign Kitchen

Serving homemade food which champions local produce, with all that walking around and exploring then treat yourself at Canonteign Kitchen. Tuck into their breakfast menu, light seasonal lunches, homemade cakes and of course no visit is complete without a traditional Devonshire or afternoon cream tea.

If the weather is playing kind then there's plenty of outdoor space for basking in the sun and enjoying the views of the Lily and Swan Lakes. Choose from the sun terrace and courtyard or head off for a picnic. There's plenty of indoor space too for those typical British summer days!

With so much just waiting to discover and explore at Canonteign Falls, start planning your visit today for a wonderful day out.
