About

Fearing for his safety in war-torn World War II London, nine-year-old George is evacuated to the countryside by his mother, Rita, to escape the bombings. But defiant and determined to return to his family, George embarks on an epic, perilous journey back to his East End home.

Following his most recent film, Occupied City, a long study of the impact of the war and the Holocaust on Amsterdam, Steve McQueen here collects together a brilliant ensemble cast to recreate in fine detail, one of Britain's most tumultuous times, based in part on (at the time) suppressed wartime catastrophes as the population sought shelter underground.
