An evening of uplifting and vibrant poetry and live music at Exeter Library, with 2 incredible award-winning poets, and a pop up bar
Malaika Kegode is an award-winning writer, performer, theatre-maker and creative producer based in Bristol. Her work is focused on uplifting and celebrating the voiceless, overlooked and misunderstood. Malaika's work has been featured on a variety of stages, including Southbank Centre, Lyric Hammersmith, University of Austria and The Scottish Storytelling Centre.
In addition to her writing, Malaika works as a mentor, dramaturg and editor. She's a vocal advocate for creativity as a tool for healing, connection and collaboration, and a proud Trustee for mental health & arts charity Many Minds.
"Compelling in her plain-speaking honesty" - The Guardian
Caroline Bird is an award-winning poet. Her selected poems Rookie (2022), and The Air Year (2020) are two of Carcanet's most popular books of the present decade. She won the Forward Prize for Best Collection in 2020, and has been shortlisted for a number of prizes including the TS Eliot Prize, the Costa Book Awards, the Ted Hughes Award, the Polari Prize and the Dylan Thomas Prize. Her seventh collection, Ambush at Still Lake, was published in June 2024.
"An expert storyteller. Most of these poems have a dramatic immediacy, full of humour and the enjoyably bizarre..." The Times Literary Supplement
Plus, live music from the sublimely funny local singer-songwriter Lizzie Lidster. Hosted by Spork! founder and silly stand-up poet Chris White
