Exeter has it all! The city life, the River Exe and it’s close to the beach… which gives social media users the perfect opportunity for a snap or two to upload to their accounts!
Gandy Street
Gandy Street is a lane filled with quirky independent shops, restaurants and bars accompanied by vibrant colour and cobbled pathways. Whilst you’re in the area perhaps catching a show at Exeter Phoenix or grabbing a quick drink at John Gandy’s, be sure to take a photo!
Exeter Cathedral
It would be wrong if the magnificent Exeter Cathedral wasn’t included in this feature! There are plenty of spots where you can catch a picture-perfect glimpse of the building; we love this shot taken at sunset within Princesshay Shopping Centre!
Tudor Buildings
Exeter is rich with Tudor history, look out for the buildings in the city that still stand today to add a hint of heritage to your feed! The House That Moved was moved 70m from its original location back in 1961; a great fact to include in your Instagram caption. Close to this building is Stepcote hill; a street which steps you back into Tudor times!
Exeter Quay
Exeter Quay is one of the most popular spots in the city as it's constantly buzzing with character, as well as being an incredible sight for sore eyes. Whether it’s the winter or the summer, this area is brilliant for strolls along the waterside and spending time at cafés and restaurants including The Waterfront and the Boatyard Bakery and Café!
Exeter Canal
Show your adventurous side on your Instagram; hire a paddleboard or canoe from Saddles and Paddles or Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre and venture along the Exeter Canal. Just be careful not to drop your phone/camera into the river!
Cream Tea
It wouldn’t be a visit to Exeter (or anywhere in the UK) without a cream tea stop! You can enjoy this sweet treat at many places around Exeter; the quayside happens to produce Instagram-worthy shots alone – even better with a cream tea! Be sure to put the clotted cream on first before the jam, the Devonshire way (the correct way!) Check out places you can go for a cream/afternoon tea here.
Topsham
Within Exeter is the historic port of Topsham. Situated along the Exe Estuary, this quaint, idyllic town has endless photo opportunities for a budding travel blogger. Make a day of it and pit stop at one of the charismatic bars and restaurants!
Beaches
Exeter has an incredible location, you can enjoy the laid-back city life as well as visiting a beach or two on your travels. Exmouth and Dawlish Warren are the closest beaches to the city; roughly 30 minutes by car or by train! Whether you take a picture of the stunning sea views or your fish & chips, the coast is a must when it comes to your social media feed!
The Royal Albert Memorial Museum
Not only does this award-winning museum feature spectacular displays and exhibitions for you to get camera happy, this magnificent building is equally attractive on the outside!
Anywhere in Exeter in the snow
The beauty of the city is heightened when covered in snow. If you can safely make it into the city centre when the snowflakes fall, you and your camera are in for a treat!
Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market
During the festive season, the Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market is the place to be for all things shopping, get-togethers with a mulled wine and treating yourself to some delicious grub! These things go hand-in-hand together with the market, which has been running on Exeter Cathedral Green for seven years, to create some seriously stylish snaps!
10 Cathedral Close
Head to Cathedral Close for a delightful walk along the cobbled paths, whilst keeping an eye out for one very unique-looking door. It’s rumoured that this wooden door is the inspiration for the Room of Requirement in the Harry Potter franchise – how cool is that?
