There's lots of fun activities taking places across Exeter and the surrounding area this May half-term. Whether it's a day out to one of Exeter's popular attractions, some time exploring the beautiful natural surroundings or even a trip to the seaside, there's plenty of family fun to keep everyone happy this half-term.
RAMM (Royal Albert Memorial Museum)
Come rain or shine, RAMM has a great variety of exhibitions, workshops, activities and things to do this half-term. On the 28th May you can make, decorate and take home your own hamsa hand out of clay, bringing good luck and protection to you and your family. The following day then let your creative minds go wild by making your own magic lantern slides out of tracing paper, cardboard and oodles of imagination, while on the 30th May there's the opportunity to look the part by dressing up in costumes from all eras and all parts of the world.
Exeter Phoenix
Family theatre, cinema, workshops - Exeter Phoenix has it all (and much more) during half-term. Bring out your arty side with 'Experimental Drawing' for all ages on 28th May, 'Sculpt-a-selfie' on 29th May or simply sit back and relax with a viewing of 'If', from 24th May to 2nd June. As well as half-term activities, Exeter Phoenix also offer their Freefall Youth Arts Group and 'Young and Animated' courses.
Crealy Theme Park
It's an adrenalin fuelled half-term at Crealy Theme Park this half-term as some of the UK’s best BMXers battle it out in the Fusion Extreme stunt show and if all the action, and weather, gets a little too hot then splash about in your swim gear in Soak Zone. If you're a fan of Sooty (and who isn't) then you won't want to miss Sooty's Magic Show and there's also the chance to meet and get your picture taken with the star of the show.
Crealy will also be offering a FREE return visit to guests who visit the Theme Park over the May half-term.
Outdoor cinema at Powderham
Head to Powderham this May bank holiday and enjoy a weekend of movie magic under the stars, for both children and adults. Tickets are only £5 and the line-up of children's films includes Cars, Frozen sing-a-long and Encanto while adults can sit back with a choice of Barbie, Mamma Mia! and The Greatest Showman. Choose from one or all three films to make it a mega-movie weekend!
Exeter Cathedral
Visit Exeter Cathedral, on 29th and 31st May, and join the family friendly workshop to create a dove of peace this half-term. Suitable for children aged 6+, explore the patterns traditionally used in Dutch Delft Ware to create your own beautiful designs.
The Adventures of Don Quixote by Bicycle
This exciting piece of interactive family theatre has to be seen to be believed. Involving actors riding custom designed bikes that even a medieval knight would be proud of, travelling together on bicycles, actors and audiences will experience the colourful and misguided escapades of Don Quixote – self styled Knight of La Mancha. Stuart Line Cruises
Set sail with Stuart Line Cruises this half-term and embark on a voyage of adventure, discovery and, if you're very lucky, maybe some dolphin spotting. Take to the water and choose from a range of fun journeys, including the River Exe, Mini Coastal, Jurassic Coast and even a cruise along the oldest working shipping canal in Europe.
Go Ape!
If you've got a head for heights then Go Ape! is the UK's No.1 forest adventure. Fly down the zip-wires, leap off a Tarzan Swing and tackle crossings whilst enjoying some of Britain’s most breathtaking scenery. Fun for all the family, you'll get to enjoy the forest from an amazing perspective as you glide between the trees.
Mysterious nightjars at Haldon Forest Park
Did you know that Haldon Forest Park is home to one of the most important and scarce wildlife species that lives in the forest. The nightjar is a ground-nesting bird that flies more than 3,000 miles from Africa to Devon to breed each summer! Join the Rangers for a fun activity session for the whole family to learn all about the fascinating and mysterious nightjars, and discover how your senses and hunting skills match up to this incredible bird.
On the 28th May there's also 'Haldon Forest Bark', celebrating all things dog with your four-legged family members. Explore exciting stalls, have a go at activities, and try your paw in their charity dog show. It's free to attend and more details can be found here.
Canonteign Falls
If it's nature loving excitement on your half-term list then Canonteign Falls provides an unforgettable adventure for all the family. Set within 90macres of stunning Devonshire countryside, just waiting to be explored, embark on a thrilling expedition through lush woodlands, tranquil lakes, and cascading waterfalls to seek magical fern fairies and hunt for pre-historic dinosaurs and then let your kids run wild and set their spirits free in our playgrounds with a zip-wire and trampolines. Take a train trip to the seaside
With the Great British seaside less than half an hour away by train from Exeter, if the weather gods are kind then you can't beat a trip to the beach during half-term. There's no better feeling than the sand between your toes while indulging in your favourite ice cream, as you gaze out to sea. Seaton Tramway
Calling all dino hunters. Seaton Tramway's Dinosaur Adventure returns on the 26th May, taking young explorers on a journey to the dinosaur activity area, where they'll be a dinosaur dig, fossil excavation site, dino footprint tracking and lots of dinosaur exhibitis to touch and draw. If it's more of a pirate adventure you seek then The Seaton Pearl sets sail (or rather sets rail!) on the 29th May with her voyage following the Axe Estuary, where passengers be off to find some "booty" at Colyton Station.
RHS Rosemoor
With family craft activities, garden trails, exciting entertainment and storytime adventures, unearth the delightful world of gardening this half-term with RHS Rosemoor's Family Garden Festival (25th May to 2nd June). As part of the activities, and not to be missed, there's a fabulous 'Flying with Strings' interactive puppet show on Thursday 30th May.
The Bear Trail
If you go down to the woods this half-term, you're sure of a muddy adventure at The Bear Trail. Perfect for all ages and abilities, you can repeat obstacles or skip them altogether! After the fun, unwind at the Bear Cave Cafe with delicious pizzas or enjoy your own picnic in our outdoor undercover area.
For little bear cubs then Bear Town offers a multi-award-winning indoor role-play centre for children aged 12 months to 7 years, this May half-term. With 12 exciting play areas, including a post office, theatre, farm shop and jail your little ones will have the time of their lives!
World of Country Life
There's no shortage of half-term activities at World of Country Life and their wacky adventures will make it fun for all the family. Don't worry about the Great British weather as they've got over 15 undercover activities to help you stay dry and still have a fun day out, including a Victorian Street, three undercover soft play areas and the Hall of Transport, housing one of the largest vintage vehicle collections in the South West.
The Donkey Sanctuary
Take your herd to The Donkey Sanctuary this half-term and follow Drizzle’s Green Guardians trail to learn about all the spring wildlife at the sanctuary. Plus, there’s a new bat beacon exhibition, daily talks, scenic walks, award-winning gardens and, of course, let's not forget the hundreds of adorable donkeys to meet and have a photo taken with.
