As the summer light begins to fade, and shades of golden brown and orange beautifully decorate the trees, autumn's the perfect time for embracing the great outdoors.

With stunning scenery and breathtaking views right just waiting to be admired, often all to yourself, here's a selection of our favourite autumnal strolls.

Haldon Forest Park

With 3,500 acres of forest to explore you can truly rediscover your connection with nature, as well as find plenty of solitude, at Haldon Forest Park. Miles of different walking trails lead through the tree-lined forest, where stunning views extend across Dartmoor and the wider countryside. If you're a more serious hiker then head deeper into the forest for a challenge and all routes ultimately lead to perfectly positioned picnic spots.

Green Circle

Green in name, Exeter's Green Circle might need a little re-branding as autumn shades descend across this beautiful 12 mile journey, set within the boundaries of Exeter. From countryside valley parks to quiet leafy suburbs, the walk is made up of five sections so you don't have to take on the whole loop in one go and can explore as much or as as little as you like. To help navigate your way around you can also download the leaflets for each section of the Green Circle

Topsham

A strong maritime flavour is at the heart of Topsham and for waterside views on your walks then it's hard to beat. The Exe estuary offers not just incredible views and wonderful bird spotting opportunities but in our eyes one of the best local spots for sunsets. Catching the colours reflecting on the water truly is a magical experience! Around Topsham town itself there's also a choice of town trails to embark on, the perfect way to explore the area and learn something you didn't know about this fascinating little town.

National Trust Killerton House

Set in 6,400 acres of working farmland, woods, parkland, cottages and orchards, there's certainly no shortage of walking options and places to explore around the National Trust's Killerton House. Get up close to the changing of the seasons around the glorious gardens, stand amongst champion trees, explore winding paths and soak up the calming scenery, taking in distanct views of Dartmoor. You can even climb an extinct volcano and discover an Iron Age hill fort on your walking adventures.
