Within a short walk from the town centre, Dawlish Beach is ideal to escape the hustle and bustle of the town. The beach is a mixture of sand and shingle, and follows the curve of the sheltered bay from Lea Mount to Langstone Rock, a distance of over a mile. It's great for swimming, with pleasure boat trips around the bay in summer. There is a wide, scenic footpath on top of the sea wall at the back of the beach.
Take a boat trip around the bay and spot the dolphins or see if you can catch a mackerel for tea off the breakwater.
Dogs are permitted along the seashore from the slipway adjacent to the railway station until 230 metres before Red Rock at Dawlish Warren (large red rocky outcrop).
