During these strange and difficult times, it’s great to see our local businesses and communities coming together to help those in need and put a smile on everyone’s faces! From PPE equipment, to tasty treats and colourful gifts – these companies are doing fantastic work!
PPE equipment
Exeter Cathedral’s Company of Tapiser’s have been busy making scrubs for NHS workers, so far they’ve created 10 sets with 14 in progress!
FabLab Devon has answered the call for urgently needed Personal Protective Equipment required by all NHS frontline staff. Part of Libraries Unlimited, the charity which runs Devon’s libraries on behalf of Devon County Council, FabLab Devon is 3D printing visor parts and reinforcements as part of a volunteer group led by Dr Rupa Chilvers, of Exeter based company Tangerine Bee. Batches of visor attachments are being dispatched to NHS staff in the local area. They will also be used by Devon County Council’s social care staff as they continue essential frontline work.
The Donkey Sanctuary have donated spare PPE equipment to local NHS staff.
Exeter Gin noticed the demand for hand sanitiser and created their very own, with the help from Exeter City Football Club to distribute them!
Tasty treats
Roly's Fudge gave our Exeter frontline workers including sweepers, grass cutters and bin changers a really sweet treat!
On the Waterfront have been delivering their delicious pizzas to NHS key workers, care homes and homeless charities.
Back over the Easter period, Crealy Adventure Park donated around 12,000 Easter eggs to local foodbanks and set up a competition with Radio Exe and gave away thousands more! The Donkey Sanctuary also found themselves with thousands of Easter eggs and kindly donated them to local foodbanks.
Darts Farm worked with the Exeter Foodbank to help create ‘Easter Tuck Boxes’ to give as a treat to families within the community that needed it around Easter, supported by local food and drink producers.
Lovely ideas
Bernaville Nurseries have donated some of their wonderful, colourful plants to the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital to brighten up the wards and put smiles on patient’s and staff’s faces!
The Estuary League of Friends at Nancy Potter House are co-ordinating an organised group of volunteers to help with a number of jobs to help the welfare of those self-isolating in Topsham.
The Royal Albert Memorial Museum has put together activity packs including a small gift to those in need, with the help from Exeter City Community Trust to distribute them!
As a part of their 75th anniversary, Ladram Bay are giving away 75 nights to NHS staff and their families at their site and their sister park Castle Brake! NHS workers were nominated over Facebook and Instagram and will be chosen in a draw for a no-cost holiday!
