Decoy Country Park pathway

About

Decoy Country Park is situated on the edge of Newton Abbot and provides an opportunity to enjoy exciting wildlife and beautiful countryside within easy reach of the town centre and railway station. Decoy was once a clay quarry but now supports a wealth of wildlife, with the main habitats found here including, ponds, streams, fen, wet woodland and heath woodland. Most of the Country Park is either a County Wildlife Site (CWS) or a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The Country Park provides opportunities for quiet countryside recreation such as dog walking, wildlife watching, duck feeding and picnics as well as BMX racing and water sports which are provided by the onsite windsurfing and canoe centre. Educational facilities are provided at the Decoy Discovery Centre and the site has wheelchair and pushchair access.

As well as the main lake which is surrounded by deciduous woodland with a trim trail incorporated into it. The main walk around the lake is relatively flat, particularly if walked in a clockwise direction to avoid the only relatively steep uphill slope, plenty of stopping points and great views back across the lake found along the way. Decoy has a number of sports pitches, which are perfect for a game of football, and large fenced play area with swings, slides, zip line and water play feature, the wet play area is open during the summer months and is a great way for the kids to keep cool.

With such a verity of activities and sports to enjoy Decoy Country Park provides the perfect day out for everyone to enjoy.

Facilities include disabled access, fishing, information boards, refreshment kiosk, sports pitches, BMX race track and dirt jumps, sailing and canoe hire, picnic benches, seasonal wildlife discovery centre, large play area, toilets, radar key disable toilet and pay and display car park.
