Dynamic singing workshop for all, with Helen Porter and Karen Wimhurst at the wonderful Cullompton Community Centre [https://cullomptoncommunitycentre.org.uk].

Helen & Karen are both choir leaders and Helen also teaches singing. The workshop will be a fun combination of learning about good vocal technique and how to improve your singing, combined with learning the upbeat harmonies of jazz and gospel inflected miniature songs for an uplifting afternoon.

The Helen Porter and Karen Wimhurst Duo on Tour!
Helen and Karen's evening programme interweaves original songs with tunes you’ll know and love. Soaring vocals and fine piano playing from Helen, and mellow and gutsy bass clarinet tones, jazz inflected, virtuosic improvisation from Karen - this is a collaboration spanning twenty years, infusing an evening with warmth, intimacy and good humour. Expect the unexpected and a great night out!

Helen’s [https://www.helenportermusic.co.uk] career in music covers a range of disciplines including theatre composer, singer, vocal coach, music director and workshop facilitator. She has worked on many and varied collaborative projects, and composed for both theatre and concert platform. Her skill and knowledge as a singer and vocal coach make her much in demand with choirs and vocal ensembles across the country. In all aspects of her work she comfortably crosses the boundaries between classical, music theatre and jazz.

Karen [https://www.karenwimhurst.co.uk] is a widely commissioned composer ranging from chamber works to music theatre, theatre and large-scale, collaborative productions. She has been commissioned by festivals and ensembles throughout Britain with performances by the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, Grimethorpe Brass Band, Welsh National Opera, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Electric Voice Theatre, Allegri Quartet and Solid Strings among others. She also directs her own chamber choir Palida, co-conducts the Shaftesbury Community Choir and a has a nonet a cappella group Sylvafield Singers. As a choir leader Karen has been invited to develop and direct a number of her own works across the UK.
