You can't beat a hearty brunch to start your day but did you know that April is officially national brunch month? Try saying that with your mouth full!

Whether it's sweet or savoury, healthy living or a little indulgence, explore our menu of the best eateries serving up brunch in Exeter.

Eat on the Green

Overlooking Exeter Cathedral, as locations go then Eat on the Green is an instant winner before you've even set eyes on the all-day breakfast menu. From Full English and the Ulster Fry to vegetarian and vegan options, you won't be going hungry. Poached, scrambled or fried, if you like your eggs then brace yourself as their free-range eggs come served on a toasted English muffin with hollandaise sauce. What a way to start the day!

Sacred Grounds

Nestled away in McCoys Arcade, and at the heart of Exeter's Independent West Quarter, is the wonderful Sacred Grounds - an award winning plant-based brunch cafe. Their 100% vegan offering includes everything from smoothies and specialty coffee to buckwheat waffles and a creative seasonal brunch menu. This is the place to fill your bellies and your soul.

The Cosy Club

More than just a brunch venue, entering The Cosy Club through what was the hospital’s chapel entrance is akin to arriving in a theatrical space. From the West Coast to your toast you've got the Cali brunch or perhaps the Butcher's brunch and Garden brunch are more to your taste? There's even some good old-fashioned bubble and squeak along with an array of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options on the menu. Anyone for a marmalade spritz to accompany your brunch?

The Sandwiched Inn

Something of a hidden gem on Magdalen Road, The Sandwiched Inn serves up traditional breakfasts alongside delicious sandwiches, baguettes, wraps, pastries and Artisan coffee to wash it all down. If you're on the move then the takeaway option will ensure you don't go hungry.

John Lewis The Place To Eat

Shopping and eating are a match made in heaven and naturally you need to fuel, or even refuel, for a big day of retail therapy. Head to the top floor of John Lewis Exeter and you'll be treated to views over the city to accompany your brunch as you choose from the Full English, Full Veggie, Breakfast Brioche rolls or something a little lighter with avocado on toast.

Lloyd's Lounge

Good food, good vibes and overlooking the remains of St Catherine's Chapel, Lloyd's Lounge offers breakfast and brunch to midday so there's no need to rush out of bed. Poached eggs, smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce is always a winning combo while the Farmers Breakfast is one for the big appetities out there. If it's just something small, but big on flavour, then a cheese scone or toasted teacake always hit the spot.

The Ivy

If it's some posh brunch nosh you're seeking then The Ivy is the place to be, and be seen. As well as the traditional offerings of salmon and eggs, served every way you can imagine, the extensive breakfast menu extends to omelette, pancakes and even kippers. Keeping things light and healthy then there's some rather tempting little fruity numbers too.

Hotel du Vin

Bistro du Vin has recently undergone a stunning refurbishment but their menu remains effortlessly simple and inspired by French cuisine. Imagine you're sat on the streets of Paris as you bite into a pain au chocolate, crunch down on the irresistible French toast or watch the world go by as you devour the charcuterie and cheese. C'est magnifique!

Brightside Exeter

Bringing proper hospitality and nostalgia back to roadside dining, Brightside is inspired by childhood road trips of days gone by. Expect lots of classics, comforting dishes and of course a tasty brunch menu. We're talking smashed avo toast, an array of sunny side up egg offerings, breakfast buns and you can't start your day without a generous helping of pancakes - bacon and maple or granola and berry?

Powderham Farm Shop and Bistro

For a hearty, flavoursome brunch that's packed full of the best local produce then Powderham's Bistro will leave you with one happy tummy. After exploring the grounds and deer park of Powderham Castle then tuck into one of their meaty offerings that come direct from the in-house butchers. Vegan options are also on the menu along with plenty of eggs your way and who could resist a traditional scone - jam on top of course!
